YOUR SUPPORT AT WORK

Outrun the Sun, Inc. believes that proper education and in-depth medical research are our only defenses against melanoma. Support from organizations and individuals is vital to supporting much-needed programs that foster outreach and research. As a 501 (C)(3) corporation, OTS supports four main program initiatives:

Outrun the Sun, Inc. Melanoma Research Scholar
The purpose of the Research Scholar Program is to provide support for young melanoma investigators whose research initiatives show great promise in finding new treatments and a potential cure for melanoma. The program is open to any researcher nationwide who meets the established criteria. To date, OTS Research Scholars are on faculty at the University of California-Irvine, New York University, University of Chicago, and Wake Forest Medical Sciences. The annual deadline to submit applications is April 15. The OTS Scientific Review Panel consisting of physicians in the United States and Canada reviews applications.

Named funds that provide additional support for the Outrun the Sun, Inc. Melanoma Research Scholar Program include the Pamela Hene Research Fund and the William E. Holland Research Fund. These funds were established by families and friends in memory of—and to celebrate the lives of—Ms. Hene and Mr. Holland.

Outrun the Sun, Inc. Melanoma Education/Outreach Awards

The purpose of the Education/Outreach Awards is to support organizations that teach students in grades K-12 about sun safety and preventive measures that potentially reduce the chance for skin cancer. To date, awards have been presented to Clarian Health, Indianapolis, and Burris Laboratory School, Muncie, Indiana. Awards are available to organizations and individuals in cities where Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma Events take place as an avenue for outreach in cities supporting the OTS mission. Applications are accepted and reviewed throughout the year.

Outrun the Sun, Inc. Networking Support Group

The OTS Support Group meets in Indianapolis and is a free service for melanoma patients and their families in Central Indiana. The group meets on the first Monday evening of each month from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the offices of the Wellness Community of Central Indiana.

Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma
The Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma is an inspiring and touching event that provides the opportunity to honor and memorialize those who have been affected by melanoma. The lively event is OTS’ largest fundraiser and it is attended by serious runners, casual walkers, teens, families, kids, and seniors. Everyone is welcome. The Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma has become the largest evening event of its kind in the United States supporting melanoma education and research. The evening start time protects participants from the sun’s harsh rays. Post-race festivities include the Melanoma Survivors’ Recognition Photo, health and wellness booths, music, food, and the OTS Kids’ Run.
