Plan Your Own Event

Individuals, groups and organizations have come forward to plan and orchestrate their own events or projects to benefit Outrun the Sun. See some examples below of the dedicated people who have generously, and creatively, supported OTS.

Sam Elliott (age 6): Artwork Sales
When young Sam Elliott learned that his father’s good friend, Bill Holland, was struggling with late stage melanoma, Sam decided to help. He put his artistic talents to work and went door-to-door selling copies of his drawings so that he could raise money for melanoma research. His hope was to help find a cure. What started as a neighborhood fundraiser resulted in Sam raising more then $3,000 from people across the country who learned of Sam’s project by word of mouth and email. OTS thanks Sam for his hard work and is grateful to the many people who have contributed to the William E. Holland Melanoma Research Fund through Sam's efforts.

Friends of Joel Johnson: Cookbook
Friends, family, and colleagues of Joel Johnson joined together to create a special cookbook in his memory. “Flavor Your Life” opens with the following dedication: “We are dedicating this cookbook to our good friend Joel K. Johnson. He touched each of our lives in a very unique way, but showed us all how to live every day to the fullest. Joel added an unforgettable flavor to our lives and for that we are forever grateful.” The cookbook is filled with some of Joel’s favorite dishes. Proceeds topped more than $1,600 to benefit Outrun the Sun.

Friends of Bill Baker: Golf Outing
Bill Baker was a long-time friend to Outrun the Sun. After he passed away from melanoma, his church’s youth athletic program hosted its annual golf fundraiser and in tribute to Bill, they renamed the event the Bill Baker Memorial Golf Outing. Outrun the Sun was the recipient of funds raised from the sale of mulligans. Proceeds and donations generated more than $1,000 in support of Outrun the Sun programs.
