Your Support at Work
Outrun the Sun, Inc. believes that proper education and in-depth medical research are our vital defenses against melanoma. We are grateful to the thousands of individuals and organizations that have come forward with generous support. As a 501 (C)(3) corporation, OTS supports five main program initiatives:
Outrun the Sun, Inc. National Melanoma Research Scholar
Created in 2006, the program is open to any melanoma researcher nationwide who meets criteria established by the OTS board of directors. Financial support serves as start up funding for investigators, allowing their research studies to progress to the degree that they are able to pursue larger-scale funding from organizations such as the National Institutes of Health. The OTS Scientific Review Panel reviews all applications and makes recommendations to the OTS Board of Directors.
Outrun the Sun is honored to have two donor-designated funds supporting the Research Scholar Program: The Pamela Hene Melanoma Research Fund and the William E. Holland Melanoma Research Fund. These funds were created in loving memory of Mr. Holland and Ms. Hene by their families and friends.

Outrun the Sun, Inc. Melanoma Education/Outreach Programs
Education and outreach programs reach children and young adults with the messages of sun safety and skin cancer prevention. OTS partners with organizations including the YMCA, Purdue University and others, to help put students on the road to life-long, sun-safe practices. Learn more about our educational programming.
Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma
The Outrun the Sun Race Against Melanoma was established in 2005 and it has become the largest evening event of its kind in the United States supporting skin cancer education and melanoma research. It is a unique run/walk that takes place in the evening to keep participants out of the sun’s harsh daytime ultraviolet rays.
The purpose of the race is to involve communities, provide educational information about skin cancer prevention, and generate financial support through sponsorships, donations, and registration fees. Event funding helps support important educational and research programming. To date, the OTS Race Against Melanoma has generated more than $500,000. Learn more by visiting the Events page.

“I am completely honored to be involved with OTS. It was so wonderful to spend such quality time with the many cancer survivors who came to the race. I found myself quite humbled by the courage of the survivors. No one was complaining, everyone just showed up to work, to set up, to run. The OTS weekend gave me new perspective, to make the most of the day instead of dwelling on what could happen tomorrow. I am empowered by this fresh perspective and I am so thankful that I had a chance to participate.”

Outrun the Sun, Inc. Recognition Brunch
The Recognition Brunch was implemented in 2007. It is an annual event that takes place in Indianapolis where OTS is headquartered. All Melanoma Research Scholars and Education/Outreach Award recipients participate in the Brunch and provide overviews of their OTS-funded work.
