Partnerships
Outrun the Sun, Inc. (OTS) was founded to facilitate partnerships among individuals and organizations in support of sun safety and skin cancer prevention initiatives. Together with its partners, OTS is making an impact within an area of the health care industry that for decades has lacked support and innovative educational programming.
Anderson Cooper Public Service Announcement
To generate nationwide interest in sun safety and skin cancer prevention, Outrun the Sun recently worked with Anderson Cooper who filmed a public service announcement (PSA) on behalf of OTS. The PSA will air as part of an OTS nationwide awareness campaign for sun safety and skin cancer prevention in 2012.
2012 National Outrun the Sun Race in May
May is "National Skin Cancer and Melanoma Awareness Month." The Outrun the Sun Race in May is a month-long program that will kick off on May 1, 2012 with a proposed event in New York City. Program partners include USA Track & Field, Independent Running Retailers Association, and the Dermatology Nurses' Association. The Outrun the Sun Race in May will bring greater national attention to skin cancer, America's number one cancer, and promote methods for prevention. The "event" offers runners and walkers the opportunity to register online, take the "Sun Safety Pledge" and run or walk any day in May to show support of skin cancer education and melanoma research. This event will capture a large audience while sharing the message of sun safety among Americans. Registrants may participate on their own or with friends, family, co-workers, teammates, or training partners. This is a perfect "event" for individuals, running clubs, schools, hospitals, dermatology practices and other groups throughout the country interested in combining excercise with sun safety. It gives a clear purpose to participants' runs/walks, whether they are in training or are participating as a casual activity. Registration will be available beginning February 15, 2012.

Indiana University School of Medicine
Partnering with the Indiana University School of Medicine, the second largest medical school in the country, OTS supported the establishment of a unique program that now requires ALL medical school students, regardless of their specialties, to receive extensive training in skin cancer detection. The program includes a combination of online, clinical and classroom components. The goal is to ensure that medical school graduates (even those not specializing in dermatology) are trained to detect skin cancer in its earliest stages, leading to better outcomes for patients.
YMCA of Greater Indianapolis
OTS joined with the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis in a first-ever sun safety program for children involved in YMCA summer camps. Since the program was established in 2009, YMCA families and more than 15,000 kids, ages three to 16, have been engaged in sun safety activities and have learned about the importance of skin protection. OTS is a proud recipient of a Tony Stewart Foundation Accelerator Grant to help fund educational initiatives for children.
Outride the Sun

Outride the Sun was created to reach the cycling community with messages of sun safety and skin cancer prevention. OTS is in conversations with cycling organizations with programs for both youth and adult cyclists.
